Coaching and Motivation: Inseparable Concepts
Coaching and motivation should always go hand in hand. Coaching and motivation are like teaching and education. Coaching and motivation are important aspects of sharing knowledge and supporting people.
There are several ways in which coaching and motivation work together to inspire effort and bring people closer to achieving more goals and knowing greater success. The definitions of the concepts of coaching and of motivation speak to the nature of their interaction.
1. Coaching and motivation: coaching is integral to a person achieving more than they thought they could alone. A coach is someone who teaches skills and pushes a person to go beyond their self-imposed limits to glimpse what true greatness they might be capable of.
A coach refines skills and improves upon existing practices to better performance. A coach provides wisdom and insight into seemingly trivial matters that can affect the overall process. Coaching and motivation are the essence of teaching.
2. Coaching and motivation: motivation is key to a successful coaching scenario. A coach can look at a child and see unlimited potential for success and strength. However, if the child does not ever glimpse their capabilities, he or she may always believe they can go no faster than presently, can try no harder than they already have.
A coach is charged with motivating his or her pupil to achieve what they are truly able to achieve rather than settling for what they can manage alone. Motivation is essential to challenging self-imposed boundaries to success.
People don’t mean to set themselves up for failure or mediocrity usually, but lack of self esteem can keep people from understanding how far they could go if confidence were on their side.
3. Coaching and motivation interact on a daily basis. A child will not take well to coaching if they see no point in the exercise. A child must understand there is a reason for the coaching, for the training.
If a person believes they are already as good as they can be and can do no better, they will never strive for more. Coaching cannot be effective without the assistance of motivation. Additionally, motivation can be the reason a person tries harder. Motivation is the point to the exercise.
When circumstances make it easier to skip training, a coach who can motivate his or her pupil to see the greater good to the training and the end goal will have better attendance and performance at practices.
Motivation, however, is nothing without proper coaching. Helping a person believe in themselves is great, but doing so without offering the support of additional skills and insight can set the person up for disappointment. Coaching is the application of motivation towards an end goal.
When coaches are able to instill additional wisdom and provide additional tools, student can utilize motivation to their greatest good. Coaching and motivation are very important components that do not work as well alone as they do together. Never neglect coaching and motivation!
